Bob Petersen
  1. Take my 10-year old Livvy to 3 CD trials. (I have submitted an application to the March 14-15 trials at MasterPeace already, so you may call this a cheat).
  2. Take my 8-year old Hannah to 3 Rally Novice trials (same deal here)
  3. Take my 2-year old Sophie Rose to 1 Rally Novice trial (once she is ready).

Kathy Grim'sNew Year's resolutions:
  1. Rally title for Sammy!
  2. And for water rescue, I won't even go so far as to say a WRD - just want him to feel confident about that jump off the boat!

Barbara Sturgeon
  1. a CD title for Chauncey,
  2. Getting Ozzy in the conformation ring once his fur grows back and into the Water this year!
  3. As for me, carve out more training time with our boys and our Newfy friends.
  4. Keep practicing my grooming skills.

Don't forget to breath, but also don't forget to pace yourself.

Happy New Year !

Kathy, I was told by my obedience instructor that I was very slow for
heeling when I started training with her a few years ago. My normal
walking pace is too slow for my dogs. They were bored. Once I
started moving like I was late for a meeting or gotta go to bathroom
(seriously !!!) , they started heeling much much better and are
looking at me more while they are moving. When Louie was still not
heeling right next to me and went to obedience shows, lots of people
asked me why I walked so fast and was leaving Louie behind. They
thought I should slow down to be next to him (not like "HE should move
faster to be next to ME") But I told them Louie would slow down more
if I slow down. It took a while for him to learn heeling is fun, but
now he heels right next to me and LOVES to heel. Since he started
heeling like Goldens or Border collies, he has been beating some of
them at competition !

My biggest advice is that heeling can be fun. Sometimes, we need to
TEACH them to have fun. Training means playing for my dogs.

My instructor told me why she loves obedience. It is because
obedience is an art. When I see her heeling with her dogs, I can see
it. It can be beautiful : )

With our big dogs, we need to move fast, fast, fast !!!
